AVIDTracker Cuts Fuel Costs by 22%

July 25, 2009

Aberdeen Group recently published a paper “Service Workforce and Fleet Management: Driving Utilization with Location Intelligence” where they studied fleets and found that companies that have GPS tracking installed on their vehicles:

  • A 25% reduction in idle times
  • A 32% increase in fleet utilization
  • A 22% decrease in fuel costs and a 31% drop in daily mileage
  • A 23% boost in workforce productivity

Fleet GPS tracking is very common.  Sumair Dutta, senior research analyst with Aberdeen Group, states that “Organizations responding to our research indicate that they currently monitor and track the location of 35% of their workers and 47% of their vehicles.  This is up from averages of 23% for workers and 35% for vehicles in 2008 with indications of further investments in 2010. These results are indicative of the value offered by GPS-enabled tracking, navigation and routing solutions in meeting cost containment and customer management pressures faced by today’s service and manufacturing organizations.”

A summary of the report from Telematics is here. The full report can be accessed here after registration. There is lots of valuable information and metrics to the benefits companies are seeing in the real world using GPS tracking (like the AVIDTracker)!

New Dashboard 2.2.6 Release

July 11, 2009

We have just release the new version 2.2.6 Dashboard with the reverse Geo-location and Google Maps integration being the neatest! Now when you click on a point on the map you see a pop-up with links for “Device Status” which shows the detailed vehicle information at that point in time (Engine RPM, Fuel level, MPG, mileage) and a link for “Where’s this?” Clicking the latter will give a pop-up that tried to get the exact address of this point. It also provides a link to Google Maps that allows you to interactively explore this area to see pictures, web cams, traffic information and Google’s street view that allows virtual tours of the location. It also allows you to see what business is at this place or other businesses around it.

Other features in this release include:

  • Online help is just a click away. We have tried to explain many common operations that user want to do, including charting, reporting, looking at map history. We plan to continually add to this with new and better explanations.
  • Improved the map pop-up bubbles with important information on an event such as acceleration, deceleration, excessive speeding or ignition on or off.   Also directions are shown with the more friendly “N,NE,E…” instead of the exact 0 to 359 degree heading.

  • On the Maps screen, along with filtering on minimum speed, you can filter to show only there the device stopped.

  • If the E-mail directive has the Subject field left blank, it will be filled in with the name of the Alert of Alarm.

We have many other exciting improvements planned in the future for AVIDTracker, its big brother AVIDdirector and the AVIDdashboard web  portal.  Many of these enhancements are based on use input and requests so please let us know what you would like to see to us do for you!
